Hi all,

Between Sunday 18th July and Tuesday 20th July, I will need to commute every day between Hemel Hempstead and London Euston. The breakdown of my journeys are as follows:

Sunday: Euston to Hemel (pm)
Monday: Hemel to Euston (am)
Monday: Euston to Hemel (pm)
Tuesday: Hemel to London (am)

Basically - I'd like to know the cheapest way to do this. I've got a 16-25 railcard. Will I be best just getting two singles (Sun and Tue) and a day return on the Monday, or two open returns (Sun-Mon and Mon-Tue)?

Thanks in advance!

There are no open return (SOR) fares London - Hemel Hempstead, but there is an Off-Peak Return fare (£9.65 with a railcard) for which the time restrictions are:

Mondays to Fridays only.

Outward and Return Travel
By any trains except those timed to depart Mondays-Fridays before 0930. Also not valid on any train departing London Terminals between 1645 and 1845 inclusive.
That would appear to be the best option if the time restrictions suit you.

Thanks.

The person I'm staying with works in St. Albans. Is this any quicker/easier/cheaper from London? It's an alternative.

There no fares valid longer than a day between St Albans and London. An Off-Peak Day Return St Albans - London Thameslink with a Railcard is £6.60 and is valid to/from St Pancras, Farringdon, City Thameslink, Blackfriars, Elephant & Castle or London Bridge. The time restrictions are:

Restriction applies: Monday to Friday only. No travel restrictions on other days.

OUTWARD TRAVEL
Valid on the train shown and all later services:
St Albans 0929

RETURN TRAVEL
NOT valid on any services which are scheduled to depart London Kings Cross, London St Pancras Intl, Moorgate or pass through London St Pancras Intl between 16.30 and 1901 (inc), regardless of where you join or leave the service.
The reference to Moorgate is obsolete.

Much depends on where you want to go in London and when.

The basic story is that I have a friend coming over from Canada who has asked me to show her around London.

She's got a single room in central London for the few days I'll be there, so I thought I'd save money and stay with my friend in Hemel Hempstead.

Basically, I'll need to get into central London on the Monday and Tuesday mornings to meet up with her.

Thanks again for the help!

If you're going to show her around London it's likely you'll be best with a Day Travelcard rather than fares to/from London. Prices and validity with a 16-25 Railcard are:
