Is thew following route from Hemel Hempstead to Dover valid with an off peak day return. Out via Ashford and return via Canterbury East and Faversham?

As long as the route is Any Permitted* then yes. London to Dover is definitely valid by either.

* I haven't checked if there are route specific tickets, but I doubt it.

In short, yes it is, including HS1 on the outbound, and now noticing MikeWH's comment in finishing off this long post there are no non ANY PERMITTED with LU tickets (according to brfares.com).

Hemel Hempstead has two routing points, Bletchley and Watford Junction. According to the routing point calculator, neither of the routing points are valid, but discounting that and using brfares.com and the fact it uses the CDS, from Hemel Hempstead it is £47.40, Bletchley £59.00 and Watford Junction £45.80, so Watford Junction is valid and Bletchley isn't (as common sense says).

The permitted routes from Watford Junction to Dover Priory are LONDON and EN+DE. LONDON means Watford Junction to London, then a transfer by LU if needed and London to Dover Priory. Watford Junction to London Group is valid via EN and London Group to Dover Priory via AF+DE, DE, FA, FB, FC, FH, FL, FN, FT, FV, HS, RA.

This means that using route EN+DE you can go to London or Clapham Junction (with Southern) and then down to Dover Priory via Maidstone East.

AF+DE is not that different to just DE form London, just via Maidstone East only. All the maps valid beginning with F (F and then another letter) are routed to Dover via Faversham from London with changes in London, so valid on the direct London Victoria to Dover Prioryvia Faversham but not HS1 Faversham and change.

RA is the route via Tonbridge, so it is valid via the direct London Charing Cross (or other terminal served) via Tonbridge to Dover Priory. HS means it is valid via HS1 as well (only via Ashford).

Thank you for your replies. Very useful.
I'm doing track bashing and being able to come back another way, makes life easier.

That's not quite what it says though. It says there are no fares defined at NFM64. Not all booking engines concur with ATOC's implementation of the Routeing Point Calculator, and for good reason...

But this is a moot point; both routes are within 3 miles of the shortest route, so there is no need to even consult the Routeing Guide for the OP's outward or return journeys.

That's odd. I don't know if there's any easy way to check the "NFM64" fares (farehistory.info's database seems to be down at the moment, and I don't know of any other site which sets it out in a readable way), but ATOC's archive gives Hemel Hempstead-Dover as being £20.70 CDS, £25.70 SDS and Watford Junction-Dover as being £18.60 CDS, £23.30 SDS, all fares being the same in either direction.

It seems to be a general problem with Dover fares, I have tried journeys from various random stations to Dover and they all say no fares found in NFM64.
