Hemel Hempstead screwed by London Midland

I have just moved to the Eutopian paradise that is Hemel and it appears that in order to catch a train to Euston, I get the choice between getting screwed for a ticket and getting screwed for a ticket.

Every off-peak ticket to London is £13.60. This is the cost if I walk to the station right now, book online for tomorrow or book 6 weeks in advance.

Yet, I can get a ticket for £6.00 from Milton Keynes that does the same job.

Which vegetable decided that no advanced fare discounts are available EVER from Hemel?

I live in Hemel Hempstead now. Interesting point ah-media.

I only use trains for leisure. In the winter when I want a day out on the trains and I need a 1 to 9 travel card. My choice is buy a cheap day return to Watford Junction and then walk across to Watford Met station and buy a all zones travel card but time isn't of an essence for me.

This is pretty standard in the railway industry. You don't get Advance fares typically on shorter routes, and they do have to draw the line somewhere. Unfortunately you're the "wrong" side of the line.

At Milton Keynes, London Midland have competition from Virgin giving a mild price war, at Hemel they are only competing against Southern (when they decide to run that service)

Both train companies (LM and GTR) are owned by Govia, so not much competing going on there, especially as they go to different places. More like complementing than competing!

If the route between Station A and Station B is served by two TOC's can they set different prices ? If I go to the ticket machine of ticket office I ask for Station A - B please and get my ticket. Do I get a choice which TOC to buy my ticket from ?

The lead operator cannot normally have their own TOC-specific product, but another operator normally can do.

However MKC-London is an exception, and both LM & Virgin have TOC-specific tickets.

A human being did for a very rational reason - someone who might be reading this post and wondering what they did to be abused in such a horrible way - someone who is now feeling down and miserable - someone who wonders why they bother trying to do a good job - someone who at this very moment is maybe wondering what the point of living is.
