hi my husband is 25 we have 3 children for the last 8 years he has provided for our family he has worked every day in a job he dislikes and now we are in a position to follow are dreams he really really would like to become a train driver we are trying are hardest to find how we could even start looking into it and would aprisiate a lil help

Hello, I believe most driving jobs are advertised internally. Therefore your husband would need to get a job within a TOC (train operating company) e.g. ticket inspector, or whatever they call them and then apply when a internal vacancy arises. I don't know much about it really but there is more information under the 'Railway Jobs and Careers' section on this forum. I can tell you that there is a lot of competition for jobs on the railway, especially for driving roles and the selection process can be tough.

You believe wrong all TOCS when recruiting have to advertise the jobs outside of the company in recruiting and also have to employ a certain amound from the non driving grade, could be a guard, ticket collector, a doctor or anyone who will fit the requirements needed.

Aren't ScotRail lookung for trainee drivers at the moment? Full 1 year training programme AFAIR. Have a look in the jobs sub-forum.

Depends where you live? I think you'll generally find more trainee jobs going at London depots. I've seen 3 different TOC's put out trainee recruitment adverts since I started looking back in January. Applied for two and am undergoing assessment for one and have been promised to be included in the next round of assessments for the other (would obviously have to wait 6 months if I fail the first). I am from outside the rail industry so it is doable.

Why would they want to view an FAQ page from network rail when, even you have said network rail don't operate trains. It would be pretty pointless all they would learn is that NR don't operate TOC.
OP obviously thought making a thread on a forum dedicated to rail would help them and there would be plenty of people that have gone through there situation and can give them CONSTRUCTIVE advice.

To the OP as other people have said your husband will have to start at a TOC and go from there. When applying for train driver jobs iam sure there are plenty of people on here to give help and advice. Good luck to you and your husband.
