Basically I just got a call from national rail, for Liverpool station. They told me to come into an assessment day plus an interview. They didnt tell me much, but if any one has been to an assessment day and the interview, can you give me an idea of what to expect. normally i'm really calm when it comes to interviews, but when it comes to a job i really want, i can get nervous really easily, thank you.

You mean Network Rail at Liverpool Lime Street, or at London Liverpool Street?!

Depends what the job is.

For Customer Service Advisor, Disabled Assistance, Announcer, Station Assistants etc, there is a well-designed written assessment then a structured interview - pretty industry standard.

For Station Manager, there is a straightforward telephone test using an automatic recorded set of questions - testing your speaking clearly skills. The difficult bit is a ridiculous "in basket" exam assessment that not even God could pass; all about prioritising a list of tasks and giving reasons why - no real right answer, so utterly nothing to do with the job, and proper suitable railway people will probably fail, whilst crapplicants with a University 2:1 in bull**** will pass.
