I've tried on and off over the last few years to find newspaper articles regarding the NWTUCC meeting about the Harwood loop line without any success what so ever. This is what I know:
Back in 1956, talk of closure was first mooted with BR stating the loop line was losing £9,699 per annum.
My L&Y Society book covering the closure states (but does not give dates or newspaper names), Burnley Rural District Council found out about plans to close the line, they referred the matter to the NWTUCC in March 1957. A meeting was arranged in Manchester so that the public could give their opinions and here objections to closure.
Then in July 1957 the NWTUCC reported that the objections were rejected and recommended the line should be closed, this apparently appeared in the newspapers.
Now, the author is vague on this, I don't doubt him, but I would really like to see some articles covering both the meeting and reported closure announcement of the line.
I've tried numerous search words, phrases, local and even all British newspapers but I just find anything? Can anyone help me please?
