Help with MOBIB card application

Hi,

I've been looking at trying to get a SNCB MOBIB card in anticipation of making buying tickets for future Belgian trips easier. I intended to get it next time I'm in Brussels, but I'm struggling with the application form and process.

I've watched a short video about getting one on the SNCB site, but they use an ID card which being British I don't have. I have also downloaded the Form R220 Demande D'Une Carte Train.

Can anyone help with which bits of the form I need to fill in as it doesn't specifically mention MOBIB and also what I can take as a photo - would an EU/UK photo driving licence do? A passport? Or passport photo?

What kind of trips are you planning to make with the MOBIB card? If you are just going around Brussels on local buses, trams and metros you can get a MOBIB Basic card which can be bought without any form filling. As far I can see, on SNCB/NMBS trains, you can't load single train tickets on a MOBIB card, so it is of little use for visitors. It is intended for season ticket holders. Regular visitors to Belgium might find a Rail Pass useful, giving 10 single tickets any distance for €76.

The FAQ says "You can get a MOBIB card without an E-id. You just need to bring a valid document confirming your identity and your address. The counter clerk will take a photo using a webcam to create your new MOBIB card"

I was thinking of either getting a Network Railcard for a week, which looks like it is issued as a MOBIB card? Or yes, the 10 journey Rail Pass, which I can buy without it. The form to fill in is geared towards season tickets (as far as my limited French understands it) so I'm guessing I just need to fill in the top personal details section and the bottom declaration, signature and date section. I can always ask when I get there!

Also, if I have an 'Any Belgian Station' Eurostar ticket which is going to get me to Arlon, I am considering having a few hours at Antwerp on the way - but I could just buy a day return when I get to Brussels, of course.

In general I plan to make more visits to Belgium in the future with a combination of different types and volumes of journeys. I always like to plan ahead and if possible buy all my tickets online before I leave and using the MOBIB card seemed like a good move - but if you can't load single trips (or a Rail Pass) onto it then it makes it less useful.
