I've come up against a brick wall and was hoping one of you might be able / willing to help me find some missing station masters...
I have a missing period from 1881 (circa) to October 1888 for Simonstone station. I have Robert Chadwick listed as SM in the April 1881 census, and William Webster appointed SM at Simonstone in October 1888, but try as I might, I cannot find any mention of an SM between 1881 and 1888. If Mr. Chadwick at Burnley Manchester Road is the same as the one from Simonstone then he's moving on from Manchester Road in April 1882, and that suggest he left Simonstone around April / May 1881.
The pattern here at this station all the way to 1946 was an SM would serve typically around 4 years then move on, if so, it looks like I'm missing two SM's, roughly / circa 1881-1884 & 1884-1888. I can't find who replaced Robert Chadwick nor can I find who William Webster replaced.
Can anyone help please, I have all the other SM's for all three stations except this period at Simonstone. The newspaper searches come up blank and I don't have access to the L&Y's minutes.
