Help with Grand Junction in Birmingham

I am go to Birmingham this Saturday 29/08/15 to try complete the line between Grand Jc and Proof Jc on my Rail Atlas edition 13th. I am not sure which train will go on that line, I think the train to/from Birmingham New Street on the higher platform number 12 or 11 will pass on that line toward to Coleshill Parkway? On the Realtrains times number 1L44 can anyone help me confirm if this information correct for pass between Grand Jc and Proof Jc

I think anything off 12 headed out towards Coleshill would generally take the Derby lines out of the station. An XC Manchester to Bristol leaving off Platform 1 would have to cross from that side of the station towards Brizzle somehow but there's a couple of places it can do this. They're not running this Saturday though.

For the record I'm going off the line marked by the arrow on the map. If we're on about any line between Grand Jn and Proof House Jn then that's anything going towards Derby, Solihull or Camp Hill.

The Bristol trains use Grand Jn off the Stours and cross. Causes a few problems if the Pendo on the Down is late.

In the up direction, which is probably the easiest way you're going to cover this route as per what Planner and Jonfun say, it's best described as Curzon Street Junction to Grand Junction, as Proof House Jn to Grand Jn can be done without going via the track you want.

Anything from Platform 1 to 6 off New Street going Up the Derby or Camp Hill line will definitely go via the route you want.

The section of line you seem to have highlighted is the up and down Camp Hill single line, this takes you from Grand Junction to Bordesley Junction via Saint Andrews Junction. I don't know of any services that actually go along this line except ECS LM and XC moves from New Street to Tysley but I am sure there are some passenger services, is this the section of line you are referring to?

We've all interpreted it as the bi-directional 'cross over' between Up/Down Stour and the Camp Hill/Derby lines.

Thats the bit I assumed the OP was talking about too. The best way to get this would be on a Manchester - Bristol service. Most of which use the low numbered platforms at New St then via Camp Hill to Kings Norton

I have been pass between the Proof House & Grand Junction yesterday (05/09/15) 1V45 0707 from Manchester Piccadilly to Newquay arrive at New Street 08:42 on platform 3A for Chelthenham Spa. Fantastic place but it was a bit long walk from the station to Montpellier Street. Thank you all for your help with details

Ah, if you were on to Cheltenham, we may have passed on the platform, as I boarded 221120 there heading to Bristol Parkway
