Hope someone can help, my daughter was left stranded in Bristol following an disturbing occurrence in relation to her journey.

Following the occurrence involving a spiked drink, she unfortunately had goods stolen including money and although had a return coach trip booked she has missed the coach.

On speaking with rail staff she was issued a ticket to travel back and was told on receipt of the fine she could appeal and send in her coach proof and that would be that.

The letter was received and straight away I notice it had the destination the wrong way round i.e travelling from WGC not travelling to, is this a 'get out' clause for not settling as I have received my appeal decision back saying I have to pay the £140.00

Any advise would be gratefully received.

She was issued a ticket and received a fine? Was this a Penalty Fare?

We will provide advice if we can however it would need to be clear exactly what sequence of events happened, who issued the ticket and/or fine, what journey was made, etc.

I'm guessing the OP's daughter's journey was from Bristol to Welwyn Garden City.

I wonder if an Unpaid Fares Notice was issued for £115, which is the cost of an Anytime Day Single with a £25 admin fee?

As @yorkie says we really need to have more details to be able to advise.

Hard to understand this - are you trying to say that Rail staff told your daughter that if she could proove she had a coach ticket she would not have to pay the rail fare, when she sought to use a train instead, having missed the coach for the reasons you state?

If so that seems very unlikely thing for the rail staff to say in my view. Why would the railway let a customer of another transport operator travel for free?

a) I would suggest that a train fare has been incurred, which needs to be paid.

b) Your daughter had drinks spiked and was a victim of theft. That needs reporting to the Police asap if it was not reported at the time.

c) If the police catch the offender, presumably damages for the victim (inc the cost of a replacement train fare) can be claimed.

Perhaps you can post a bit more clearly about what the rail staff issued / did.

Of course this is a very nasty incident to have been a victim of.

Although obviously I'm sympathetic, 'spiking' of drinks is nowhere near as common as people think; according to reports, 95% of the time it's a case of drinking too much and not being aware of what you're having. Although I'm sympathetic, of course.

It's unlikely that staff would believe it as people try every trick in the book to get out of paying, I'm afraid. I think you'll have your work cut out getting out of this without just swallowing your pride and paying the fine/fare.

From the sounds of it, she missed her coach because of those circumstances mentioned. She went to get a train and didn't have money for it so tried her luck, but was caught on the train. They said pay the on the day fare as well as a penalty fare.

I see OP has not provided any further info / clarity on this (eg which staff issued this / where / copy of what it was etc) - hard to offer further advice that might help without that.
