Help needed from rugby union fans

I've just bought a ticket for England vs Italy RU at Twickenham (k.o 3 pm) without realizing the Football League cup final is on at Wembley the same afternoon (k.o. 4.30 pm) (Sun 26th Feb).

Having never been to Twickenham before, can somebody please advise me on the quickest way to get to Euston after the game, hopefully to arrive by 7 pm to catch a train to Crewe before the Man Utd masses arrive? How bad will the queues be at Twickenham station? Are extra trains put on? Is it worth trying to go to another SWT or tube station or even catching a bus?

There are extra trains though these will be busy, a queuing system operates at Twickenham. It may be worth leaving the rugby a few minutes early to beat the bulk of the queues.

Or crammed on to Heathrow Express after flying in from Singapore etc.

I'm a Rugby Union supporter and would definitely say Twickenham to Vauxhall thence Victoria Line.

No need to leave early. Rugby fans get lost in the bar on the way to the station. But going to Euston stay on to Waterloo. (If the train doesn't stop at Vauxhall) use the northern. I always go via Waterloo. Vauxhall can get overcrowded.

In the past they have put non stop twickenham to Waterloo queue busters on.

You will be lucky to be out of the ground earlier than 17:15 (80 mins plus 15 for halftime and "time off") unless you think the last 10 minutes are a forgone conclusion!
Depending on where your seat is the shuffle out of the stands, down Rugby Road across the A316 and to the station will take as much a 30 mins. The queuing system at Twickenham Station is well rehearsed but we regulars are always surprised how long it is so soon after the game. SWT do run extra trains to Twickenham and a few on the inbound journey but the exodus is drawn out as supporters seek post match refreshment before leaving the area.
You might like to look at the free bus from Rugby Road to Richmond Station where SWT also call or District Line trains will take you to interchanges for the Piccadilly, Victoria, and Northern Lines . My estimate whatever route you take 19:00 at Euston is pushing it.

We usually make our way to Richmond, rather than try and get on rail at Twickenham.

Hopefully by 70 minutes the game will be won and you can get a head start over the crowds.

Was going to say the same, they will probably be arriving from Essex, Devon, Cornwall, South Wales and Heathrow Airport. None or very few will come from Manchester itself.

Free bus to Hounslow Bus Station then Piccadilly line from Hounslow East (couple of minutes walk from the Bus Station). Find the Hounslow Bus at the North End of the North car park. (There is usually 4 or 5 waiting and are nowhere near as busy as the Richmond bound buses, which are found in large quantities, with large queues, to the East of the North car park). Journey time 15/20 minutes. Always my prime route away from Twickers, as never a problem getting a seat. (Internationals, HEC's, Double Headers, etc).

P.S.

I can say that having previous experience of a 3pm KO at Twickers, that you should be at Hounslow East by 17:30 and Euston around an hour later at the latest.

Just cut though the motorbike parking area to the front of the bus queue.

I abhor Rugby Union, but an alternative suggestion would be to head south from the stadium towards Fulwell and pick up a 267 bus going to Hammersmith (thus pre-empting the huge queue near the stadium). This will drop you yards from the Hammersmith and City Line terminus, from where a near empty train to Euston Square should be available.

The vast majority of people with United tickets for the final will be season ticket holders - as that is how they distribute away tickets. There are well over the 31000 tickets the club are allocated who hold a season ticket - they sold out of season tickets this season (after appointing Jose Mourinho), which is ~55,000.

A lot of these will live in Manchester - there are more United season ticket holders in Manchester than City.
