I am a driver of trains in Sweden. I work mostly in track maintenance. I am doing a list of words/phrases to use when we work with people from other nations. And I got stuck.

Is it:
/dangerous goods/ or
/hazardous goods/

I think of RID-transport.

I think we would be much more likely to use 'hazardous goods'. To me, this implies everything is under control but there is potential for serious consequences if there is an incident. 'Dangerous goods' implies it's too late!

In fact, it's actually the opposite. Rule Book details, manuals and safety standards usually describe such items as "dangerous goods". However, when looking at different scenarios which may occur, the term "hazard" may be used.
