Help Identifying a Depot

Hello all,

Can you help me identify a depot please? I beleive it is an EWS one. My sister tells me she passed it driving to Skegness at the weekend, from what she tells me its somewhere in Nottinghamshire. Its not Toton, thats Long Eaton. This ones more Bingham way (from what I've been told) perhaps close to the Lincolnshire border.

I've done a little exploring on Google Earth but can't find anything.

Any help you can give is very much appreciated,

By Colwick sidings do you mean the fuel depot at Rectory Jct?
If so i didn't know it was closed, but the trackbed is still there and the re-signalling scheme this summer will include signals to route trains in there. Could this be a contender?

Sleaford is also used as a stabling point for track machines and occasionally loco's, but of course that is in Lincolnshire and miles away from Bingham.

The depot was deffinatly open - if had locos in it (quite a few so I was told)

My sister isn't entiley sure of where it was, she just remembers a large depot between Nottingham and Skegness

either her geography is wrong or she was talking about Toton or Eastcroft

Any idea what route she was taking? The oil terminal at Rectory Jn is still open as far as I'm aware, but not easy to see from obvious road routes through the area.

Was it definitely "main line", or could she have passed near a heritage site such as GCR(North) at Ruddington, or the Rutland Railway museum at Cottesmore ?

I don't know. I havn't a clue where she was on about, and it apears neither does she.

The story expands when she tells me she wasn't actualy driving at the time, at the time she was a passenger and had infact not long woken up from nodding off when she seen it.... I'm wondering if she woke up after she had seen the depot!

Anyway no worries chaps, doesn't look like we're going to beable to solve this one. Thanks a lot for your help anyway!

I did wonder if it was Ruddington but it seems a long way of route!

I'm not really sure about roads between Skegness and Nottingham but could it have been the depot at Asfordby test centre (Old dalby test track). 47714 and two 08s based there, but don't know if the depot itself is near any roads

Without knowing the specific departure point and the route taken. Apart from passing between Derby & Nottingham (Toton) or going through Nottingham city centre (Eastcroft) there is no other railway depot along the route of the A52 or A46. Colwick Sdgs can't be seen from either road. and most towns along either route are bypassed. Even Boston only has the EMT sidings, but these are usually empty during the day. Boston Docks is also off the main Skeggy route, and rarely has the loco's out unless shunting the steel train stock

The departure point was Ilkeston, and then following whichever direvtion the SatNav took them.

Toton was a possibility, but they had been on the road too long for it to be that.

From what I've gatherd, is that she was wrong and it was Toton, or she dreamed it and the depot doesn't exist.
