Help-Carnet abuse accusation

Hi,

I was accused this morning by a ticket inspector of travelling with an altered/reused carnet ticket to avoid the fare.

I had to submit my details to the ticket inspector and they retained the ticket.

Unfortunately this is the case-partly down to poor admin on my side and my own foolishness. There have been occasions when I did have a ticket I had filled out in advance an not travelled meaning the ticket was wasted, which I know is a poor justifications of my actions.

Is there anything you can suggest that may help me rectify this at this stage/limit consequences against me.

Do I take it from your comments that you have dated the ticket, not used it and redated it. Sadly if that is so then the ticket is considered altered and would not be valid.

If I have understood your post: you filled out a carnet ticket and didn't use it. Then you changed the date and attempted to use it, but were stopped by an inspector.

If this is correct then they have all the evidence they need to successfully prosecute you if they decide to. The correct thing to do with a carnet ticket that is incorrectly filled in is to take it to the station to request a refund/replacement, rather than change the date. The T&C's should make this clear.

If the TOC write to you to request your side of events you need to explain what happened - that you filled in the date and then didn't travel - although, since carnet tickets are transferable, proof of your whereabouts on the date in question doesn't prove that the ticket wasn't used. It wouldn't, however, harm your case if you can provide such evidence.

Well were you travelling "with an altered/reused carnet ticket" or not? You seem to imply you were but your use of the word "accusation" also implies that you were not. Suggest this thread is closed till the OP comes back to clarify?
