Heathrow Terminal 5?

Hi all,

Just remembered when I posted the euston story, the same day I was confused of something else. All the tube info/signs say terminal 5 is not open, and the destinations on the day were terminal 4. But when me and DJC_158 got off set 153, the destination on the platform digital information things said 'Heathrow Term 1,2,3,4 & 5'!

Was that a mistake or a test!? IIRC the 1,2,3 MIGHT not have been there, but there was a couple of numbers then '& 5' at the end anyway.

T5 is Opening on the 27th March, it Stands that Piccadilly Line Trains to the Normal to T4 then carry on empty through the new T5 station.


Some GEN for hex bashers, The Heathrow Connect won't go to T5 only 1,2,3,4, the HEX will go to T5 direct from T123.

Some of the Dot Matrix Indicators have already been changed (as it takes a while to do all of them) so that they can display either Heathrow Terminals 123 and 5 or Heathrow Terminal 4.

At present the Heathrow trains run ex Hatton Cross to EITHER Terminal 4 then Terminals 123 (6ptph) or to Terminals 123 then detrain and run to Terminal 5 (6tph).

The trains should display T123 for ALL trips at present with a card saying Direct or via T4. However the Train Ops have now convinced management that this was a tad daft and confusing! and now have the front of the train showing either T4 or T123.
T5 software is already loaded onto all Picc trains

Well the Heathrow Connect will extend from Heathrow Central to Heathrow Terminal 4.
The Heathrow Express will divert from Heathrow Central to Heathrow Terminal 5, platforms 3&4.

They will both be free of charge between the terminals.

At the moment:

Picc's go ecs Heathrow 1,2,3 to T5 into the headshunt then back to 1,2,3.

All Connects terminate at CTA (123) then ECS to T5 (although we do carry some T5 workers on it), driven there 3 times today!

When T5 opens:

The 30min connect will extend to T4 with a shuttle(360 but maybe a 332) doing a 30min interim service T4-CTA to give 4tph.

HEx will no longer serve T4 but will divert to T5, again 4 tph.

The timetabling is tight to say the least, with CTA being a bit chaotic at times so some tweaking of timetable may be required after a few weeks!

And yes HEx will use P3-P4 at T5 with LUL PICC using P5-P6

Trackless P1-P2 are boarded up at the mo' and will be used by Airtrack which will be the next big project at LHR (with Heathrow East terminal)

There is an article in 'Modern railways' this month with my boss explaining HEx and T5, which is where our young friend got his info from

TPWS some cheap safety fix built on the back of AWS, could have been a stray current from whatever lol!!! pain in the nutz tho lots of forms to fill in!!

At least ATP gives you a clue when it buggers up!!

Lets put it this way, after seeing the finalised version of the arrival/departure times at CTA today, I think T5 is where HEx stops being an "extension of the airport experience", and starts being a proper TOC, with delays, high fares and poor customer service levels through the roof...

We'll see though. It will be fun finding out from the 22nd/25th (unsure which one) when the new service starts running (empty to T5 until the 27th)... I'll be off on Annual Leave as I was down as SAN on the 26th/27th/28th (and can guess where I would be dumped)... :roll:

I thought it was gonna be x10 T4 and x10 T5. Also 2 minutes stand at Heathrow Central is a laugh, i think ill swap my CTAs for T4/T5 diagrams.

Like all drivers hehehe, The 'R' Key at piccadilly always breaks on a cold night, a Bolton train was delayed for 20 mins because they couldn't turn the key! why not just go back to the old fassioned method of SHOUTING!

Will be a laugh to see what happens when the trains stop running T123, T4 for certain, will make it fun at Heathrow Central (T123) if it doesn't work out and they don't have good enough passenger information
