That Darwin award article appears to have been written by someone just as stupid as thief it mocks!

From the way it's written the author, just like the deceased copper thief, clearly doesn't appreciate the reason he died wasn't misreading the timetable, it was not understanding the wires are constantly live whether or not a train is passing!

Someone wasn't listening during GCSE physics:

One enterprising fellow with a good knowledge of the electrical system planned to cut the copper cable during the time between trains, when no electricity was travelling through it. His plan might have worked... but for one small flaw.

In the pocket of his charred overcoat, police found an out-of-date rail timetable. The train arrived ten minutes before he thought it would, sending hundreds of volts of electricity through the thief's hacksaw and into his body, and putting an untimely end to his career.

Regardless of how someone meets their end, do you not think it's a bit distasteful to revel in the death of a human being? Sure they were criminals but they were also someone's son or brother or father. Who's to say that under certain circumstances you wouldn't have ended up being foolish or misguided enough to end up on that path?

Get a grip, all of you.

I'm afraid my sympathy in these cases is solely reserved for those poor sods who, through no fault of their own, have to clear up the remains.

But there's a difference between prioritising the feelings of those staff who as you rightly say have the unenviable task of dealing with the fallout, and actively revelling in a death. It isn't an either/or situation but it is often presented as such.

Talk of Darwin Awards (besides misrepresenting the theories of Darwin himself) is best kept to the sort of book one keeps in the bathroom to occasionally have a giggle at whilst performing an evacuation.

Fair point.
