Health and safety course

I want to take a health and safety course so I have "another string to my bow" when applying for trainee train driver jobs. Was looking to do the 'Level 2 Award in Health & Safety in the Workplace'

Anyone know if this will be worth doing? Are there any other courses to consider?

I applied for a job with Scot Rail and they asked do I unterstand COSH - Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations , ask at your local college about doing a course also just google health and safety in work place.

Hi londonwall. I suspect that actual experience of working in a safety critical environment or observing health and safety at work may be more important than a qualification itself for this kind of role. I'm sure others with more knowledge of the recruitment process will come along to correct me if I'm wrong, just wouldn't want you to invest in a course that may not be relevant to the application...

If it is a free course with your current employer it is worth taking, if you have to pay for it I doubt that it will weight the chance of getting through the sift, as LCC says experience in a health and safety enviornmnet will strongly outweigh qualifications in H & S, one thing though it won't hurt having this qualification but I certainly wouldn't pay for it hoping it would give me an advantage when in fact it may not.

You do not need to really do any courses extra to get the job, you just need the criteria that is required to score high in the sift and interview process.
