Only a paper 'mod' I'd suspect so little effort other than a bloke signing them off. Still a more major issue that there are very few 90mph wagons though!

Didn't they trial a 92 at 90mph on the Alloa tour?

Surely EWS/DB could run class 3 freights at the moment, just at 87mph rather than 90mph? It won't make any difference to the headcode, as it's still higher than the 75mph 'upper limit' for class 4s. I'm sure the extra 3mph wouldn't be of any great benefit for pathing either!

Maybe different TOC's use different systems but down here if a train has a SSO/NTSO or is started short it still uses the same train reporting number and is simply cancelled at the stations it doesn't call at.

Z's are often used on FCC when the Thameslink service is split in two owing to service disruption. As drivers are always displaced they generally allocate Z train reporting numbers rather than try and keep to the working timetable.

lol I was about to argue my point, you couldn't restart the example 1W29 in Cardiff as 1W29, if the original set is still running in the region as 1W29 - i.e. its in bridgend or been diverted on the vale or glamorgan. Therefore it takes on the 1Z29 headcode.
