HDD or SD card ?

I would imagine the SD card has a faster write rate than conventional (read: spinning) drives. A SSD hard drive would be good but probably prohibitively expensive for your camera.

If it were my choice I'd go with SD card and get a few class 10s

Less power consumption from flash memory too, as well as little to go wrong.
