Haymarket to Rugby valid via ECML?

I'm travelling on a FOS Haymarket-Rugby on Tuesday. Am I permitted to go via York-Derby-Tamworth/New St-Rugby, as I was hoping to give EC a try? If not, how about via Glasgow Queen St and Central to New St?
