Had time to have the camera out recording from Dalmeny jct down to Gateway, showing virtually all masts in place now.
Thanks for the video. :)

I hope that you'll be able to provide updates over the coming months.

Thanks very much for that! It's nice to see that they've done so much, and also just how low the bridges are.
Thank you for getting an amazing POV and footage of the project! Hoping for some more footage in the future if possible. I've not been able to find anything near South Gyle in a while, would you be able to get any footage there?

Found more work to take place. The cobble bridge just a few metres south of where the wires end near Dalmeny is being demolished.

The plans you've linked to are for a reconstruction of the bridge not a demolition.

Good work i just hope they are going to keep this team going somewhere else given this looks close to completion.

Ah yes sorry, but will the bridge not be demolished first?
I should think so. The bridge in question is at 0:21 in the video above and it seems the arch barrel needs to go, leaving little to support the remainder in its present form.
I wonder if access to the crane site will be taken through the tank farm or elsewhere then via the nearby fields. A few options seem possible in the absence of the bridge.
Would like to think the new deck will be used less as a dog toilet, but I suspect the habit will persist so long as their owners continue to park nearby.

25kV dog urine doesn’t seem like a nice combo for the old or new bridge… hopefully that will change.

While it's a good vantage point to admire present electrification work towards Edinburgh Gateway, you need to be careful where you stand. At times the aroma here can rival a Cross Country Voyager interior.

Is there a sewage works nearby? ;)
Funnily enough, yes. Perfect cocktail of sewage works, dog poo, and trains discharging toilet contents onto the track for 100 years.
For observing electrification progress, think I'll stick to looking at photos taken by others and posted on this thread.

Indeed they are already cracking on with the Levenmouth branch, as this thread reports.

Just reading back in this thread, there seems to be intention to put an FS at Dalmeny but not with a grid connection. Does this mean there'll be a cable connection to the Fife Circle scheme?

Where is/are the grid connection(s) for the Edinburgh-Glasgow via Falkirk electrification?

I think Portobello is just for the immediate Edinburgh area only supplying as far as Haymarket westwards, and Longniddry eastwards. Isn't it getting replaced or upgraded in some way?

Portobello & Greenhill I think.
Greenhill to Dalmeny and Glenrothes to Dalmeny are pretty close to equal distance as the crow flies (a km or two difference) - so I guess which could be used would depend on how heavily loaded they are/will be.

I think the junction is intended to be upgraded for the Borders Railway.

Seems a new FS site is being installed at portobello jnc. My assumption is that this is "feeder station extension" work, so no new grid connections (or changes to current grid connections?) But rather a new switching station for the borders line and maybe also the depot receiving power from a new cable running to the original Portobello GSP/FS.

Noticed at the end that they is wires on the headshunt where is the HST is stabled. Does that indicate some lines within haymarket depot are/could be electrified?
The wires over the headshunt are the aerial earth wires rather than catenary.

Plans for the depot(s) are a pretty important part of any new rolling stock order. The new BEMU order will mean no more suburban diesels around Edinburgh. The remaining self-powered trains would just be long distance ones to Aberdeen and Inverness. Since Haymarket handles more than just the HST fleet it seems somewhat inevitable that it'll get wired up for the BEMU fleet. Even if the new trains could run on battery alone, there'd need to be some parts of the depot wired up so that it's possible to charge trains up before service, and to test out the pantograph and other electric non-battery components. But there's not much point wiring it up until the new plans are sorted, given that it might involve changes to the layout.

Maybe there will be a new Thorton Yard BEMU depot for the battery-fitted tranche, Cadder will be upgraded to service and stable 222s and Haymarket gets sold for housing. Just a thought.

I doubt the Haymarket thing would happen, but there are quite a few disused sidings outside of Thornton on the west side where a depot could pretty easily be built as the track layout is still there.
