Hayes & Harlington to Heathrow

Hi all.

Quick fare question for Hayes & Harlington to Heathrow.

Now the stopping service is ran by TFL rail, I'd assumed that as it's on the TFL zone map that normal fares apply, so Z5 to 6 off peak £1.50.

When I do a fare search using things like BR Fares or TFL Journey Planner, it comes up as being £6 each way.

Which is right?

Unfortunately there is a premium for the Hayes to Heathrow section to cover the access cost of using the tunnel link. The fare is £6 as a result.

The bus from right outside Hayes and Harlington is quick, frequent and would be £1.50.

Thanks for your speedy reply! You'd think on the map they'd have some sort of note that says premium fare applies.

I'll probably park at West Drayton and bus from there. Cheaper car park and direct to T5 which I'm flying from.

Watch out that the bus stops at West Drayton station are currently closed due to the poor condition of the station access road, and it's a good 5 minute walk to the next stop out on the main road.

Unlikely I'm afraid. This is from the Google Maps info button:-

"WEST DRAYTON STATION: Until September 2020, buses on Routes 222 350 698 U1 U3 and U5 are unable to serve stops in Station Approach outside the station due to poor road conditions. Please use other stops in Yiewsley High Street, Station Road or Horton Road (350) instead." - tfl.gov.uk

Unfortunately I read this morning the same thing. The cheaper car park and being dropped directly to T5 will make up for a few mins walk!

There are many exceptions to the "normal" fare so the map isn't a good way of working out the fare for a journey. It makes no real claim about what the zones are for, though it does ambiguously refer to fare zones. Looking at it again it doesn't even say that the numbers are zones. The shading has got so faint that I wonder if the aim is for the zones to have faded away completely in the next year or so.

Maybe, I suppose it's always good to check but equally I think the very large majority of people know about the zones - it wouldn't take much to have a symbol to say premium fare applies beyond H&H.
