Well who is going to look after South Humberside ( Grimsby, Barnetby , Wrawby, Elsham & Appleby and other other boxes ) when the new signalling is commissioned in January then or has its commissioning date been put back?

As the plan was it was off to York ROC.

Sheffield was meant to go in December but it's now in May next year, unsure if this delays Humberside.

First system due into Romford ROC will be the Thameside area signalling control due to be re-controlled from Upminster IECC under the TMS 1st Deployment during Q3 2016 (slipped from Xmas 2015). This will be the second live UK TMS 'interfaced' system (the first shortly preceding it: Newport for Wales ROC), and will utilise Thales' ARAMIS TM system alongside Siemens' new WestCAD-E control system with flexible control zones (same as Newport for Wales ROC).

This will re-control the three current Upminster IECC 'classic' workstations, as one configurable WestCad with TM.

Not much though, Colchester (colchester) put back minimum 5+ years, Colchester )Ips / Nor) no date now, Cambridge, now off the radar, Broads, if it goes ahead will go to Colchester PSB, Liverpool Street IECC, must admit not sure of the current plan, last we heard, staying put.

Item on NR website about the opening of Rugby ROC

http://www.networkrail.co.uk/new/2015/nov/Rugby-ROC-ready-to-roll/

Network Rail has officially opened the latest addition to the rail operating centre (ROC) network.

When fully operational, Rugby ROC will be home to more than 400 staff working in open plan collaboration in a number of key disciplines involved in the smooth day-to-day running of the railway and managing disruption issues.

It will operate 24 hours a day to reduce delays, boost performance and, crucially, offer passengers better information and a more reliable service.

Rugby is one of 12 ROCs which will eventually control the entire British rail network and covers the southern part of the London North West Route from just south of Crewe down to Euston.

The Stafford area, being upgraded as part of the railway upgrade plan, was the first section of railway to be signalled from the Rugby ROC. The next section will be in the Norton Bridge area, near Stafford, from Easter 2016.

Leader of Rugby Borough Council, councillor Michael Stokes, joined Network Rail route managing director Martin Frobisher at the opening.

A slightly different version on the press releases section of the site:

Transfer of operation to York ROC of North & North East lincolnshire area is now on track for Christmas Shutdown 2015 and first part of January 2016, so The York ROC will have its first area of control operated from there?

There is an article by David Allen in the current Rail (#787 p48) on north west signalling.
He says Rugby ROC will eventually extend its control north to Weaver Jn, with Manchester ROC controlling further north.
It seems the outlying Crewe SBs will migrate to Crewe PSB first.
All subject to change no doubt.

Sounds about right, Gresty Lane goes into Crewe PSB shortly and the rest will go when Crewe gets blitzed for HS2.

What's the plans relating to the Colchester PSB? Is it remaining open?

In the long term, no PSBs will remain open, just the 12 ROCs. But that could take another 30 years. Colchester PSB was supposedly recontrolled to Romford ROC in 2017, according to the NR spreadsheet that was put online a few years ago. Did that spreadsheet ever get updated?

Seems like the ROC form of signalling will be outdated before some of the routes even get there if 30 years is the time frame.

Colchester put back until at least 2023, Cambridge PSB now has no date at all, which I expect that date will be replicated by Colchester too eventually. still talk of Yarmouth/Lowetstoft coming to Colchester in or around 2018 or so.

According to the last paragraph on page 77 of RAIL magazine issue 815, NR's latest plans, published in September, include the dropping of plans for the Edinburgh ROC - its functions are to be absorbed into the Glasgow one. So now there will be just 11.

Having two ROCs for Scotland (not that far apart) seemed a slight anomaly to me. Maybe they've realised it isn't a big enough railway...

Within earshot of trains passing the one and half

Basford, Crewe, et al will go to Manchester ROC, I hear.

Rugby / Manchester boundary will be around Betley Road.

Interesting that the LNW historic north/south boundary won't be used as the boundary for the ROCs

Where was/is that?

May have been a political decision to avoid a big bust-up.
I once knew a Glaswegian (a phenomenally clever researcher at Edinburgh University who went on to become a professor) who referred to Edinburghians as "Edinbuggers".

Was between Rugeley and Armitage, and Stafford and Penkridge in the Sectional Appendices

There isn't too much information on this thread regarding the Western Region. Gloucester PSB recently lost the Blackwell - Northway (Ashchurch) section to the West Midlands Signalling Centre. Does anyone know when the remainder of Gloucester will be gobbled up by Didcot? Its 50th anniversary is due in May 2018.
