Hauled trains around Cardiff

Hi all, first time on the forum,been looking for a while before deceiding to join.

A question i would like answering if possible is, are the hauled trains around Cardiff : Holyhead to Cardiff, Cardiff to Taunton/Paington here to stay or just untill the timetable change over? I'm thinking of going down from Norwich in June for some bashing.

Generally some people believe it'll finish at the end of the timetable period (extremely unlikely), but most reckon it'll be quite some time yet. I reckon you'd be fine for June.

simple London Overground & London Midland are recieving some class 172's to allow them to withdraw their class 150 dmu's which will then be transfered down to FGW to allow the class 142's to be sent back to Northern as well ass increasing capacity and allowing some class 150's to be sent back to Arriva trains wales

I honestly think that the LHCS on FGW has been so successful (popular with enthusiasts too) that FGW will keep them even when they get the extra 150s, and use the 150s to double up on certain busier trains. I hope so anyway!

No offence, but while of course they are popular with enthusiasts, the 57/3 diagram has been an absoloute reliability nightmare for FGW. Although it seems to have settled down lately and is now managing to go weeks without a failure, compared to the 67s they have been less than impressive performers, although the stock is also worth its fair share of the blame.

i'm pretty sure there are no loco hauled trains on Good Friday nor Easter Monday, as the operators are running Saturday services on these days, if i've read correctly on National Rail Enquiries. it says that FGW are operating a Saturday timetable on Good Fri, and as far as Arriva go, there is no 16.15 (WAG) departure to Holyhead on Fri nor Mon

although i will say, that on Good Friday there is a 14.00 to Taunton getting there 16.04 and departing 16.16, identical timing to the 57 hauled service. the Saturday 14.00 gets there 16.02. can't say for sure, but it definately says that FGW run a Saturday service on Good Friday.

the 8am to Paignton seems to be running too, according to NRE. it is confusing why they say about "Easter timetable ammendments" and saying that FGW are running Saturday services on Fri / Mon, which if were correct, would mean the loco hauled would not be running.

Oh booger. The slowest guard in the West will be even slower then! :roll: The 67s on Taunton were dead last Easter. No one wants to go there, ever.

speaking of Taunton, what is the significance in running a service terminating here? wouldn't it be better to run to somewhere like Exeter with it's largish population.
