Hatton Cross - doesn't show up in Journey Planners

Hi All,

Random question. Looking at possible going into London to go look at some of the planes arriving at Heathrow. Now the easiest station looks to be (according to Google Maps) "Hatton Cross". However neither the forum ticket app, nor NRE seem to know this station. I appreciate it is an underground station, but they seem to normally show up? Has it got a different name?

Thanks!

I've never seen solely Tube stations pop up. Just checked and my 2 local stations without a National Rail presence fail to show on either of those sites.

TfL website seems the right place to try.

Try using the TfL journey planner if you are looking at route planning.

A word of advice: both the National Rail and TfL journey planners seem biased towards the use of their own respective services.

You can also put in "London Travelcard Zones 1-6" as the destination.

From the Southampton/Portsmouth area, it may be significantly cheaper, although longer, if you use the Southern route via Three Bridges.

IIRC you can also route via Brighton (including Gatwick Express) with this Travelcard, rather than using the Arun Valley line.

What we looking at? £48.70 (before railcard discount) for an Off Peak Day Travelcard, route "Three Bridges"? Arrive into London (Victoria?) at/after 0945 midweek. Or is there anything cheaper?

That's the one I was thinking of - I'll sometimes drive to Southampton for a cheap day out in London using that route (it's the same price as Portsmouth!)

If you go on a Saturday, it's cheaper - £36.50 (again before railcard discount) for a Super Off Peak Day Travelcard, and you can get an early start. The SWR route is close to twice that price.

With a railcard, it's £24.30, which must be one of the best value Day Travelcards available.

I stayed at a hotel at Hatton Cross about 15 years ago (cheap deal), could see the planes from the hotel window and spotters lined up outside! Looked to be a good place for plane spotting! Have fun!

If your train stops at Clapham Junction, I would definitely change for Feltham - it’s a quick and very easy bus journey (285 or 490) from there to Hatton Cross, obviously included in any travelcard. It might also be much cheaper if you’re only doing the airport to buy a ticket to Woking - there are frequent buses direct to Heathrow from there.

You may also want to check flight arrivals before making the journey. If they’re landing over London (wind-dependent), they only go directly over HX for half the day (it switches at 3pm) - you can check this well in advance on Heathrow’s website or just work it out yourself (it changes weekly, you’re looking for 27L). If they’re using 27R then Hatton Cross doesn’t give particularly good arrival views, you’ll just get the exhaust draught from departures instead.

If they’re landing over Windsor, you’ll get some decent departure views over Hatton Cross (they nearly always use 09R for departures in this direction), or you can walk from T5 to the nature reserve right on the edge of London for landing views on 09L. The tube is free between HX and T5.
