Travel plan:

Passenger 1: Hatfield > Harwich International
dep 22 December (after 0930)
ret 30 December (after 0930)

Passenger 2: BZ6 > Harwich International
same departure/return
With Z1-6 Season (Gold Card)

I have found that passenger 1 (wife) can get an off-peak return for £21.60, while (from East Coast) I can get Harold Wood > Harwich Int for £17.75!

That either makes the trip from Hatfield very cheap, or the extension of my TC very expensive!

I can't find out what the fare would be from BZ6, unless there's a way to do that on the EC site?

Any tips on getting a cheaper ticket with some clever splits? We'd ideally want to go from King's Cross to Liverpool Street, rather than do anything clever like avoid Z1 by going via Stratford and London Overground (clever as that might be, it would mean rather too many changes and the use of steps - for a pregnant wife!).

Are you connecting to a ferry? The through train from Cambridge would be a simple change, in that case, and there are cheap tickets in conjunction with ferry fares.

In general, fares via Newmarket are very good value.

Yes, but the ferry leaves around 6pm. I looked (for tomorrow) and there seems to be just one train a day from Cambridge to Harwich - and that arrives around 9pm.

Somewhere between WY372 and MV7
BZ6 - Harwich Intl £17.75 with railcard discount (£26.90 without). Although fares might be out a little bit as the source is a little out of date, but shouldn't vary too much.

Is that the fare you wanted to check - if not just say what fare you want :)

BZ6 is the same then as getting it from Harold Wood (so I could order online).

I asked as I wondered if there was a split ticket option, but it seems that I have to get the Boundary Zone ticket and the wife only pays about £4 more, which is a bargain (in comparison).

Is this down to the legacy of when the GN route was part of the WA route or something?(even though Harwich is on the former Great Eastern line?).

It must be all mixed up if FCC can set the fares for over there!
