has EMT 43054 caught fire?

just wondered as a mate mentioned this to me, happened on he 0600 to or from Derby on 30th may 2013... I can't find any report though on here about it, just wondered if it was a major thing or not.??

either way, a logistical nuisance nevertheless

going to be interesting to see what EMT will use in place of that HST set or if they will borrow a power car from somewhere for the job....

East Coast took over the lease of a complete (ex EMT) set last year, EC64 I think it is, its the one with odd seats in the TGS.

I have a feeling that 43047 is used as a spare at the moment, so might well see it appearing on mainline duties more often.

The question is, which compressor, their VP185's have twin stage turbocharging with inter and after cooling, so if one of those went up, it could have caused considerable damage to the engine. The bright side is that the three turbo compressors are identical. So would be easily available.

Can anyone tell one of my university lecturers worked on the 185?

EMT were given 43089 as a spare - is that not still about?

The air compressor, the compressor that compresses the air so the brakes will work.
Why are you going in about turbochargers, the fire was nothing to do with the engine or any of its ancillaries.

Quite a spectacular failure though.

Yes, I don't think it's very popular with them - it appears to have serious problems with driver/guard communication and other faults and EC's control updates even tell you which services it is working every day :)

I assume EMT handed back the worst of what they had :lol:

The compressing side of a turbocharger is called a compressor. Little known fact ;).

could have been worse, the Rio set with 43189 was bad enough lol.

Indeed, all the guards hate it. Not allowed to run north of Edinburgh as a result of the problems.
