Yes, but the cheapest fare Wakefield - Sheffield is the same price as the Wakefield - Chesterfield ticket, and the Chesterfield one is not restricted to avoiding Doncaster. EDIT Just checked the Routeing Guide and that's wrong. In doing this, I've spotted a couple of Routeing Guide errors. I'll start a new thread on that rather than hi-jack this thread.

I didn't spot the Horsfield split, though! Well done, yorkie!

As John says, you need to get the Wayfarer in advance. Unfortunately you have to specify the date if purchased from a rail station, but apparently if you get it from one of various outlets detailed in the leaflet (available as a PDF on the web) you can get a scratch card. One of the places is Sheffield bus station. They're extremely useful tickets so next time I have time in Sheffield I'm going to get a few if I can.

You can also order them by post by sending a cheque payable to Derbyshire County Council to:

You then receive the scratch card version.

Just to clarify all the available locations for purchase of the Derbyshire Wayfarer, the FRPP states the following:

Available from

Alfreton, Burton on Trent, Buxton, Chesterfield, Derby, Long Eaton, New Mills Newtown and Sheffield rail stations

Bus company travel offices, tourist offices and by post/telephone from the Council.

Do you know how long the scratch cards last until? If it's a long time I may buy quite a few.

I think it's daft that stations don't sell the scratch card versions.

Last time I bought a scratch card, I think it lasted til the end of the year after next, ie. nearly two years.

But even after that, it seems you can get out-of-date cards exchanged:

Out-of-date tickets
If you have any unused pre-purchased tickets which were valid only until the end of 2008, you may exchange them for new ones. Simply send them to the Public Transport Unit at the above address (see "Further Information") requesting replacements, and new tickets will be sent to you by return. Only unused, undamaged tickets which are not endorsed "complimentary" can be replaced.
Please enclose a stamped, self-addressed envelope for the return of your tickets.
