PLPR = "Plain line pattern recognition".

= Network Rail measurement train used to identify / take photos, as the train passes over, of potential track defects.

Usually such trains are in a distinctive "banana yellow" livery.

HSTs and 37s have certainly been down there plenty of times.

There used to be a daily HST in each direction between Harrogate and London, via Leeds. Not sure if I've ever seen an HST between Harrogate and York - I have seen loco-hauled Mk3a stock, with 67s, on that section.

I believe the HST UTU test goes up to Knaresborough from Doncaster but does not continue down the Harrogate - York line

That sounds about right from memory. When it was last up here, either the HST, or the train infront, suffered severely from adhesion issues and lost 45 minutes between Knaresborough and Horsforth-ish.

What will happen to the Harrogate line PLPR (Plain line pattern recognition) train?

The other services that should form it were cancelled, so I am assuming that it has been cancelled?

It will most likely be sent back out from the RTC as a positioning move to Doncaster CHS where it will prepare for 1Q18 (the test you are asking about). Loco allocations may differ however.

43251 and 272 booked to work 1Z18 then 1Q18
