I went down to London a few weeks back and on the way noticed some wagons standing on Harringay curve. No loco on the north end so I assumed there was one I couldn't see on the other end and it was waiting for the signal at Harringay Park junction.
But my question is this, how does a southbound train actually get there? TRACKmaps shows the track layout simply doesn't exist to allow ECML southbound trains to get from any up line to the curve without reversals, except by running wrong line all the way from Hitchin.
Do freights reverse over the flyover perhaps? Or arrive from the south then run round in Ferme Park sidings?

Most, if not all, trains using that curve will start from Ferme Park sidings. These are accessed from the south (being on the down side). South of Finsbury Park there are routes from the North London Line (both east and west) as well as from King's Cross.

Trains in the up direction (i.e. on the 'other' side) can use the viaduct so many trains will stop short of Finsbury Park on one of the goods lines. Then reverse over the viaduct before reversing back in to the sidings. The bottom of the viaduct is actually north of the sidings so it's more wrong way running to enter the sidings.

Most of the route from the curve and through the sidings and up along the goods line to Alexandra Palace is bi-directional so no problems running past and then reversing. So long as the local rules are observed.

Not sure whether this is still the case, but some of Hull Trains ECS moves from Kings Cross to Old Oak Common used that route, reversing on the down slow 2 near Hornsey. I think the only other user of it in that direction is GBrF engineering trains for LU which run from Ferme Park.

It is up for electrification - along with the route from Junction Rd Junction to Carlton Road - which would give FCC another route fro ECS from the Midland to Hornesy. (along with the future options of a reverse at St Pancras low level and the Canal Tunnel route)

Is there a crossing from the up TL line into St Pancras' low level northbound platform?

Or are the Canal Tunnels both bi-directional, and a train from Kentish Town would head ECS back up the normal 'up' tunnel (usually from Finsbury Park)?

It's all bi-di.

I think it is also possible to access the ECML via St Pancras Int. It would have to be from the Eurostar or SET platforms. I'm fairly certain you can't reach the incline from the East Midlands platforms. That would avoid using the TL platforms and running the 'wrong' way in the Canal Tunnels even though it is (will be) all bi-di.

There's crossovers both sides of St Pancras. North of Pancras there is a scissors cross over so a train doing Kentish Town to Finsbury Park just goes straight into the northbound platform and reverses.

Canal tunnels are bi di with a crossover to allow trains to reverse from Finsbury Park if the Core is blocked.

If you look at an aerial shot of the St Pancras area, it's (theoretically) possible to get from the Eurostar platforms to the Westbound NLL (and thence the WCML via Primrose Hill), MML and ECML. Don't think the same can be said for the SET platforms however.

The 'maintenance siding' - the connection between the MML and the international platforms - isn't electrified, unless I'm mistaken.
