Haresfield Loop Derailment

Railway and surrounding roads closed due to freight train derailment, with no estimate for the line to reopen. Doesn't a flask train run through there from the Bridgwater area? Of course I could be barking up the wrong tree.

Edit: Maybe I got a bit overexcited Sky News (as of 13:47) are reporting:

"A rail tanker carrying oil has overturned next to a hotel, spilling it's fuel. The train derailed by the Beacon Hotel in Haresfield Gloucestershire. More to follow..."

If its haresfield loop, its between gloucester and the junctions of the bristol/kemble lines. Yes flask does still run but not as frequent as it used to. Usually D/headed tracters I think or dreds. Although its usually only one or two flasks, two locos are used for insurance purposes. Don't think our oldbury one runs from sharpness-berkeley rd anymore though, havn't seen it for a while.

Looks like rear tanker jumped and tumbled through points. This is a regular holding loop for this train on a busy section of line. Its held there to whilst waiting access to or from westerleigh for pathing. This is one heavy train when its full, something a 66 struggles with anyway - at least its not a super tanker as the trials were carried out for a few years back, double headed by 2 x 60s!!!

The only services on that line to have suffered any real delays of more than just a few minutes were 1V23 (11:00 off Nottingham). It was 20 minutes late into Gloucester but managed to make up six muinutes by Cardiff. It arrived at 14:46 instead of 14:32, which resulted in the return working (1M71) being five late off Cardiff (14:50 instead of 14:45). It's currently 13 down past Abbotswood Junction.

Last travel reports indicated that trains from swindon terminating at Stonehouse and trains from Bristol terminating at Cam and Dursley until line reopens. Road Transport to gloucester and cheltenham. Birmingham Cardiffs shuldnt be affectd, others being diverted via STJ and Lydney. Tanks now sealed to prevent leaking and Main B4008 Road now open although other local area roads still closed and B4008 may have to be closed at some point for un-known reason.

Out of interest, what radio station was that? The line reopened with a 20mph TSR just after 17:00 and that's what we have been broadcasting on BBC local radio and displaying on BBC Travel News / BBCi, Ceefax, Absolute Radio Travel etc ever since. We also supply many commercial stations with info (in this case from the police for roads and FGW control via the phone for the trains) so I'm just interested in whether or not it's one of our clients...

Severn Sound. Yes - all open now and running through although still suffering delays. I hadn't listened for a while but I've been down and can confirm it is now running through but they are with 30+delays. THey were still saying it were shut at alf 5 though! Couldn't see much from B4008 road bridge though as wall is to high in the car and theres a hedge round it now!

I don't think Severn Sound are one of our clients, so I'm not responsible boss Sounds like they were just reading what was on the NRCC site, which itself wasn't updated until around 17:30.
