Happy 150th birthday Tenby station

The current station opened on 4 September 1866, with the connection of the existing line from Pembroke Dock onwards from Tenby to Whitland.

Now unstaffed, and has seen better days, but it survived the Beeching Axe fifty years ago, and looks set to last a lot longer, albeit with the removal of HST services after 2018.

The auspicious occasion isn't being marked at all and I guess I'm the only person who's excited by it. I'll pop in to see the old girl on her big day.

The railway station currently in use is actually the second station to serve Tenby

The original railway station was opened three years earlier on 30th July 1863 by the Pembroke and Tenby Railway was situated in a low-lying situation which was found to be unsuitable, hence the relocation.

Learned to work the signal box there during family holidays in the 70s, thanks to the kindness of one of the station staff, who also arranged several cab rides on the freight that still ran then, and the loco-hauled Saturday services to Pembroke Dock.
