To expand on this, this will be the last mainline working of 50008 until after Christmas as its going to the Weardale Railway as a backup loco for their Santa specials. It’ll also operate in regular passenger service at Weardale on 29th December just before it leaves Weardale. All workings at Weardale will be top and tail with one of Weardale’s resident 31s.

The Diesel Running Day was a late addition to the calendar to make the most of having the 50. Its primary purpose at Weardale is as a backup loco for their Santa specials - they only have one operational ETS fitted loco at present so needed to hire in a backup loco for 31465.

I would expect 50008 to be working with both 31285 and 31465 at various points on the Santa specials, and potentially with both of the 31s together on the diesel running day.

50008 leaves Weardale shortly after the diesel running day, a path for that (probably back to Knottingley) should appear nearer the time.

Shame I missed this. We had a choice of Wensleydale or Weardale for a post xmas ride out. The family chose Wensleydale as it had a steamer and that was "nicer" than some old diesel!
