Thanks for the comments. It is somewhat erratic. There was a period at the beginning of the year when it didn't run at all. Then it was running on Wednesdays but not necessarily every week and now it is Fridays - comes down at lunch time laden and leaves Hamworthy empty about 5.40PM.

Apparently, it could be running tomorrow or Friday this week - if I get confirmation, I will let you know.

I actually managed to catch it going through Bournemouth this week (remember I said I'd not seen any freight on this line...?):



This one was taken from the Milton Road bridge (I've caught 2 different pairs of 73s down there this week...), and although it's a bit of an experimental shot (the shadows were playing havoc with the metering on the camera - probably magnified by the fact that I was using a 200mm lens) it's a shot I'm reasonably happy with.

It is indeed.

The view the other way is a bit more instantly recognisable:



Overall it's not a bad spot (and the view is far better than the next bridge down towards the station) but the lighting can be a challenge at times.

Nice shot Anna will have to check that location out. I did go up to Glenferness Avenue yesterday just for a recce and also the next one up in Rothesay Road - excellent sighting both ways there!
Also the Stone train is running today not tomorrow!!!

How far down the branch is the terminal please? I have had a look around the Poole harbour end..does the train actually run into the docks?

I can only assume so - I stumbled on it completely by accident (I was on my way to get some milk at the time, but fortunately I often carry a compact camera with me "just in case"...).

There are some pretty good bridge locations between Bournemouth and Poole (Elgin Road is another one - it's the next one in the other way from Glenferness Avenue) but a severe shortage of places for lineside shots.

There's a footpath running alongside the line from Elgin Road bridge to Meyrick Park (past the site of the old Meyrick Park Halt) but fencing and foliage make it a non-starter, unfortunately (it's a good running route though!).
