Hammersmith & Circle Work next week

Hi all

I am hoping you may be able to help me.

My normal route to work each day is...I get to Kings Cross St Pancras and hop on the Underground getting on the Hammersmith and City Line to Paddington. On my route back i get a H&C to barking from Paddington.

Due to work for the next 3 weeks it looks like the underground isnt going past Edgware Road and im trying to figure out the best new route whilst the work is being carried out.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Isn't the Circle simply reverting to its old *circular* (and not Spiral) route? Could you not simply use the Circle specifically and leave the train at the Circle station at Paddington (the one that is not adjacent to the Great Western station)?

If that is not the case, from King's Cross I would recommend going to Baker Street and changing to the Bakerloo. In the reverse direction, to get to Barking I would suggest walking to Lancaster Gate (the Central Line) and changing at Mile End to the District. Either way, you could always just walk from Edgware Road; allowing for changes it could well be quicker...

Ivo is correct, the Circle reverts to the proper format during the blockade of the Hammersmith branch.

You should still be able to make your journey. The best way is to go to the Circle Line platforms at Paddington and take either the Circle or District Lines to Edgware Road. It is a cross platform interchange there or else cross the footbridge from Platform 3 to Platform 1 for trains to King's X and Barking.

No need to change at Edgware Road; the Circle will be running all the way round and round and round and round....


It is Paddington H&C ( Bishop's Road station ) which will be shut.

Paddington Wimbleware and Circle ( Praed Street station ) will be open.

These lines are only closed at weekends you guys know, a normal service seems to run thoughout the week as I used them last night.

Only problem I had was trying to find the platform for the Eastbound Mets at Baker Street, found the Westbound Mets with no problems though.

No, these intensive works are in effect from Saturday/Monday; the weekend closure has been the case for several weeks now. Which causes me problems, because I will have a lot of luggage to lug around at Paddington before that three-week period has elapsed...

As has been mentioned in several previous posts:

The Hammersmith Blockade starts this weekend for 3 weeks (including weekdays) - there will be no trains between Hammersmith and Edgware Road.

The Circle line will revert to it's old service, so you will have a direct train from Kings Cross to Paddington.

If anyone needs stations between Hammersmith and Paddington, there is a replacement bus service - add an extra approx. 40 mins to your journey.

And of course if you are going between Paddington and Hammersmith you can avoid the bus by getting a Wimbleware to Earl's Court and changing there ( it's cross platform ) to the other Hammersmith station...

I got the replacement bus to Paddington (I had to, an operator 2 miles from my house in Hertfordshire ran it!) and then a Circle Line train, but alas it terminated at Edgware Road. Is the circle line still "split" or was that train just terminating as a one-off?

The Circle line is currently running to the old service pattern - the normal circle. It may have been a one-off due to disruption, although are you sure it wasn't a District line train? They are the same trains themselves, it's just the district ones go from Wimbledon to Edgware Road.

The information screen + announcements at Paddington said it was a Circle line train but who knows - it's not exactly faultless

Paddington platform 2 on underground, get only trains that say circle line, the platform information is hopeless so go by the train

You could always just hop on a Boris Bike from Kings Cross to Paddington.

Or the excellent bus 205, which follows the Circle/H&C from Paddington to Mile End.

The buses are nice but I've been on it a few times in different times of the day... the journey always took forever! Not due to the route though, the traffic
