Looking at the government regulations it seems that the "critical uses" exemption on the use of Halon 1301 for most things will expire on the 31st of December 2025. Given that the Channel Tunnel is one of the few things that is still allowed to use Halon as a fire suppressant I was wondering if this ban will affect the Channel Tunnel? Have they finally managed to get a replacement for Halon 1301 in the tunnel?
For reference the manufacture of Halon 1211 and Halon 1301 was banned on the 1st of January 1994 and the use of portable Halon fire extinguishers was banned for most purposes in the United Kingdom on 31st of December 2002. There are still of course some exemptions for use of reclaimed halon in "critical use" areas such as aviation (which for portable extinguishers in cabins will be banned this year), certain military uses and of course the Channel Tunnel.
