Any improvement is to be welcomed, and any improvement with foot and transport access would be wonderful. From my reading it's very vague on the third platform, but from my strictly amateur understanding of station design, I would have though allowing a three platform station would future proof. If service provision and passenger numbers rise, there'll surely be a point that a third platform would be useful, and as the infrastructure is mostly there already wouldn't it be a no-brainer?
