Halifax Bus Station Redevelopment

Halifax bus station has partially closed in order to enable building of a new bus station. As a result there has been a major reorganisation of bus stops across the town centre. https://www.wymetro.com/plan-a-journey/travel-news/bus-travel-alerts/halifaxbusstationworks/

Whilst it is inevitable that changes of this nature cause some disruption, Metro seems to have gone out of its way to confuse passengers by maximising the number of changes. It is not just services using the bus station which have moved. Some other services which did not use the bus station at all have been moved to several streets away from their existing stops and further from the town centre.

To add to the confusion, some of the services now moved out of the bus station will nevertheless use the bus station on evenings. One has to ask why? What's the point?

Key principles in promoting use of public transport are maintaining as much consistency as possible and keeping any changes as simple as possible. Basic principles which Metro seem to have lost sight of.

Have you got any examples of any services where the arrangements are unsatisfactory? It all seems pretty sensible to me; they are mostly still using the stop they would usually use after leaving the bus station with some additional stops being introduced to allow buses to layover for prolonged periods (such as Crown Street).

Regarding some using the bus station at night, presumably because there is space available. So why not? It’d be safer for passengers and drivers.

542 in Norton Tower-Siddal direction now uses Commercial Street instead of Market Street.

In terms of evening use of the bus station, passengers need to consistently know where their bus stop is, not have to think 'it's 1830. Does the next service go via the bus station or not?'
