Hi,

Looking for advice on getting from Halifax to Barmouth (even though it appears to take more than twice as long as driving).

If we do it, we'll be leaving Halifax on Saturday 26 July returning Saturday 2 August.

We don't want to be getting up at the crack of dawn or arriving after nightfall.

There's 1 senior railcard, 1 "normal".

The full return seems to be £125.85 for the two of us.

With Trainmiser I can get it down to £117.70 (with 1 r/c) - along with a suggestion that is more than the Off Peak return.

Might be worth us getting a two together card even if just for this journey...

...and £21 on the way back

Looks like splitting at Manchester is advantageous for starters.

Although it's not the cheapest option, if you want to do a couple of days' rail or bus travel from Barmouth you could cost out an Explore N and M Wales Pass (4 days in 8) plus Off-Peak Returns HFX-MAN and MAN-Chester. The full fare adds up to just over £90.
