Half price offer for Oslo-Malmö train

Norwegian state-owned operator Vy have a new direct train service from Oslo to Malmö, Sweden. It operated during the summer as a test and from 19th December it will become a permanent weekend (Friday to Sunday) service.

There is currently a half price offer for the new train for anyone who joins Vy's free customer loyalty scheme.

They've had a bit of trouble with ticket sales because Swedish SJ refuse to sell tickets for this train on their site and app. In Sweden most people assume that all trains are searchable and bookable on SJ and therefore Vy have an uphill struggle in letting Swedes know that the train exists.

Thank you I am travelling back from Bergen next year. This would be an interesting option. I am currently booked on the Colour Line ferry from Oslo to Kiel and it is eye waveringly expensive. About £600 in the cheapest cabin with a buffet dinner and breakfast.

I looked at doing that and quickly took the decision they could "**** off"!

Ended up taking a coach to Gothenburg for a ballsy connection to Copenhagen, which I missed. So ended up booking onto Stena's ferry for about £140 in the cheapest cabin on the day of travel.

There's plenty of cheaper options available to get you to Germany from Bergen even without this half price offer, no need for a cruise. If you don't want to train it the whole way there's plenty of ferries to the north coast of Denmark (Hirtshals) from Norway that should be a bit cheaper.

I recently did the ferry from Kristiansand in Norway to Hirtshals in Denmark for under €40. It only takes a few hours. Then by train to Kiel

They sell Vy Bus4You tickets between Malmö and Oslo, but not for the train... What's their petty reason for that?

Whereas in Norway, Entur can sell Vy trains but not VyBuss. Despite being able to sell other long distance coaches such as Nor-way.

Thank you for the suggestions for Norway to Germany. I have a refundable booking for the Kiel ferry so I will explore other options. I thought it would be a contrast Nordstjernen and Colour Magic in the same trip but the cost is too expensive for me.
