Hadfield/Glossop line traction

Have DMUs ever substituted for 323s on the Manchester - Hadfield/Glossop line? On every other electric route out of Manchester this seems to be a regular occurrence, yet every time I've used or seen the Hadfield service it's been a 323.

Secondly, does anyone know of an occasion where a Class 309 made it out to Hadfield? I know 305s were used until the 323s were all in service, and a few managed to hang around in sporadic service until circa 2000, but I don't recollect ever seeing a 309 on this route. I know 309s used to cover on the Hazel Grove service as I travelled on one back in 2000.

Last year i know of two times that a DMU subbed for a 323, both times being very late on a night

Thanks for the info. I guess that DMUs struggle to keep up with the timetable on the line, especially with many of the stations being close together.

I don't remember having seen it happen during the era of the 323s on the line, but I seem to recall DMUs were used when the Sunday service was first reintroduced

Again, not during the era that they were actually running in Manchester, but 309s have visited Hadfield - the Network Exile railtour, during Autumn 1986, ran there.

I had 101656 or 101658, can't remember which, on 13th January 2001 to Glossop and Hadfield due to a wires farce...

The only times DMU appear on Macclesfield services is the few services that don't continue south of Macclesfield. Northern can't use 75mph stock south of Macclesfield due to pathing issues and apparently Pacers are banned between Macclesfield and Stoke (opposed to not being cleared like is the case between Sheffield and Nottingham) due to platform clearance issues.

A few 156 have run down to Stoke in the last few months too.

I've certainly had an occasional 150 on the last service of the day, and they ran 150s regulaly when they were working on the approaches to Piccadilly in the 90's and the Glossop trains ran into Victoria
