Are GWR withdrawing all of their 8 x 143s by 31st December?
Northern and TfW have officially and publicly stated that they will need to continue to use Pacers beyond 31st December, but AFAIK, GWR haven't said anything publicly about keeping their 143s in service into 2020.

Does anyone know anything different?

Have heard they will remain for a while attached to class 150s in service to ensure a disabled toilet etc is available. Not sure if true or not though

GWR have applied for permission to retain the 143s into 2020. They will operate coupled to 150s on the Paignton-Exeter-Exmouth diagrams. Information given this week to the ALRUG AGM by GWR's Matthew Golton.

So what are GWR waiting for to replace their 143s? Presumably 150s but from where?

3 Car 158s to work Barnstaple route and more Castles and cascades. Amndments with TFL an Heathrow Express produce additional 387s which will replace and release Turbos form London area to West

This being 2 X 3 car 165s, not enough to replace all the Pacers

They're not directly replacing the Pacers. Turbos and Castles are replacing 158s for Bristol centric services which now are being reformed to two car units to then replace Pacers

As I understand it the two 3 car 150/0s have to leave which adds to GWR's problems. Don't know when or to where to but assume Northern? Anyone have details?

At the moment, they are going to Northern in April. One of the two now operates a diagram working out of Bristol and just leaving
one diagram out of Exeter which will also transfer to Bristol. When they go they will be replaced by cascaded Turbos. People always seem to assume there will be problems when units are transferred away but this shouldn't be as replacements should be allocated

Why did TfW think they were getting the 150/0/9s then?

Just had a look at the document closely and only mentioned 150/9 not 150/0/9. The 150/0s are a prototype 3 Car formation unit so, I assume, 150/9s would indicate a 150/2 with a coach from another one similar to GWRs now decreasing 158/9s.

You'll encounter disagreements whenever discussing unofficial sub-classes: Centro's hybrid 3-car 150s were numbered in the 1500xx series (from 150003), and as far as I know 1509xx numbers have never been used.

1509xx numbers were used by FGW for their 3 car 150s

150/9 numbers have been temporarily used by FGW (now GWR) on several occasions when a 150 carriage has been out of action for a lengthy period due to collision damage. Rather than keep the undamaged carriage out of use it has been formed in the centre of another 150. 150926 and 150927 and 150938 come to mind but, of course, "unofficial"

Then I stand (or sit, on a stinky Northern 150/1 as it happens!) corrected!

Nevertheless my point stands that when referring to a hybrid 3-car 150, you could use either /0 or /9 depending on which you're used to. Likewise 158/9 could be referring to hybrid units or the 10 which were ordered for WYPTE which had only a large toilet rather than a large and small one as all the other 2-car 158s did.

I remember seeing a 150+153 hybrid at Cardiff.
1 car of a 150 coupled to a 153 to make a 2 car set.
Think it had a 150/3 number.

The number was 153399. This 2 Car hybrid was giver the prefix 153 to identify it as a 153 for Route availability purposes, i.e. to avoid allocation on routes such as Cardiff to Portsmouth services where 153s were banend beyond Southampton for example

That's the one.
Can you remember what the 2 car numbers were?
Thanks
