GWR Worcester Expansion

I'm reaching out to anybody who may be in the loop with the upcoming expansion project GWR have planned at Worcester Shrub Hill/Foregate St.

There will presumably a recruitment drive for various roles, however I'm yet to hear of any planned dates or specific areas the company will be focusing on for recruitment.

As always, any help is appreciated.

I was told recently there will be 10 TM vacancies at Worcester next year, though I would expect most of them to be covered by transfers from other depots and promotions from Customer Host.

It's quite interesting, as a rather remote depot for GWR it's historically been a 'dead man's shoes' sort of depot.

I would say though it's a great place to work.

The company will never give out details of what it specifically requires. Simply because it doesn't know. Not that it would tell you if it did.

Can't speak for other roles, but all the current driver jobs have been filled by qualified internals and there are a dozen qualified internals with their name on the list for next year's expansion

As indicated above, any vacancies that open up as a result of the expansion of the Worcester depot may not actually be at Worcester.

Staff from several depots have regular turns along the Cotswold Line and on London-Gloucester/Cheltenham/Worcester, so in many cases a transfer is fairly painless, with no need to spend time on route-learning, or not much.

More customer hosts may be needed - a number at Worcester have become train managers in recent years and I can think of some current ones who would be good TM candidates as well.

Clearly I misunderstood what I was told about where staff were transferring from - didn't realise so many were ex-Gloucester.

Quite a few - I believe the ones ex-Cotswolds will need to route learn WOS-PAD via Kemble as well, as the first two HSTs out of WOS in the morning that way - currently this is Glos work but will go to Worcester

Hard to say, Central region is over established to absorb traction cascade training and when it all settles down Glos will have lost 2 jobs per day. It depends what they do with the extra lines added to cope with the training
