I remember reading (some time ago I might add) about a supposed UFO encounter a locomotive, in BR ownership, had on a line now part of the Gloucester and Warwick Railway or somewhere very very nearby. I believe it mentioned a Peak or maybe a 47, but there was a picture too, of a locomotive with all its windows burned out, weird warping on the bufferbeam and all the electrical circuits fried. As well as ballast that had turned to basically ash, along with twisted rails etc....

Does anyone know of this?

This fascinates me but I have been trawling Google for about an hour an I have turned up virtually nothing.
I would be very interested to read if anyone has any further information.

I will admit to being a believer. IMHO one of the only things we can be certain about in the universe is that it's infinite and in an infinite universe, we simply cannot be alone.

That vaguely rings a bell from many years ago... I think it was a TV thing rather than a case report, I'm afraid. Sounds slightly like some nuclear war drama.... must be mid 1980s at least....

I tried google too, to no avail. Its not mentioned, I did have a copy of the Glouc Warwicks magazine that mentioned it but can't find it :( its certainly an interesting one for me as its a local.

I totally agree, it almost seems naive to assume we are the only living things out there, if our little planet could evolve life some others must have too, could almost make a good cultural comparison if one was ever to make contact with us, but given the infinite distances in space it could be a long time yet before we meet them sadly. Or maybe area 51 knows something we don't eh.

Wouldn't that just be a fire? I mean why would ET's decide to rough up a loco, unless they were a skinhead division?

This link directs to a report of a train crew encountering a UFO in Kentucky USA, in 2002, It even suggests that the object collided with the train. It's rather a strange read.
According to reports, Extra Terrestrial visitors have been known to be destructive in the past, so it wouldn't surprise me to hear that a locomotive had been deliberately targeted by them.
Of course all this depends on how open your mind is and your belief level, some may believe some may not, but as has been discussed earlier in the thread, there is only the very slimmest of chances that we are alone in the universe.

Perhaps they don’t have trains on Rhgyl 7 and were thus confused by an apparent thundering armoured beast breathing black smoke hurtling towards them. Perhaps they assumed the nose section made the loco some kind of diesel powered land torpedo and thus a threat to their intergalactic flying saucer or perhaps Davos wanted a bit more power for his wheel chair and fancied riding atop a 1960’s vintage locomotive or perhaps it is all bulls*it – who knows
