Anyone who went through a Paddington position, did you do the MMI the same day as the other 8 tests? I'm feeling quite confident right now about passing the tests but doing a MMI same day sounds immense.

Again congratulations. It's a grueling process but worth it at the end. I completed my DMI last week for the Paddington depot. Mine is for HEX. Got the email saying I was successful at passing the interview just on a reserve list until spaces open up.

When you initially passed your dmi did the email tell you your on a reserve list until spaces open up?

And good luck with it all mate
Hey mate. Congratulations on making it through all the way. The hard part is over. I'm pretty much in the same boat as you. Have you heard since the passing DMI email? When did you apply for this position.

Cheers

Hi, have you recently completed your MMI? If so how did you find it? and can you give me a heads up on anything? How many were interviewing you? As I’ve got MMI 1 & 2 the same day? Does this mean separate interviews? Thanks

ahh perfect. thank you, I can focus on the tests and think about stage two for another day
Good luck to you too
Have you sat the MMI since? I have mine in June so any help or tips would be great? Thanks

Hi. I completed my assessments and MMI in early February. All done on the same day. I was interviewed by one person and it lasted approximately 1 hour. I'm not sure about 1&2 as I was told the assessments and MMI will be on the same day so I prepared for both. Be prepared to have many examples as they will ask detailed questions about your experience. They will try to throw you off. So just be calm and you'll be ok.

Can you remember what the 6 questions where? And when you write them down pre interview how much detail do you give? How did you find the interview? I only have the MMI 1 & 2 remaining now so hopefully I can pass it

I can't remember the questions exactly. But along the lines of 'give an example of when you had to deal with a difficult situation'.
I found the interview to be intense as it's non stop. They keep jumping questions to test your resilience and remaining calm under pressure.

Go to the southeastern train driver recruitment discussion. Page 36 has the exact questions used for MMI.

Hi, I had my tests for GWR earlier this week at Swindon. We only did the paper and computer tests and also a situational judgement exercises at the end. The MMI is the second stage which you get invited to if you pass.
I found out the results quite quickly to. I did the tests on Wednesday and found out yesterday that I'd passed.
best of luck.
Hi, thanks for the above info, that is exactly how mine was in the end. have you sat the MMI yet, if so are you able to share what it was like?

thanks

Hi mate

Congratulations to you too, I applied in October and haven’t heard anything since the DMI. I did send an email but got a generic response about they have no update. Just a waiting game I guess will see what happens.

Thanks for the info.

I also applied in October 2025. To be fair the process so far has been pretty swift which is great. I guess it's just a waiting game now. Any idea on when courses are planned?

Hi, not yet. My MMI is booked for June so I've also got an eye out for any info about it.

Was this email specifically for TM talent pool?
I had my email this morning that I’ve passed my DMI and I’m now on the reserve list (talent pool I’m guessing?) for Swansea.

Obviously no indication of when the next step is and I’m expecting to be in the talent pool for months/years from what I’ve read on here.

Hi,

I have had an email relating to my application for conductor, the body of which I have added to the end of this post here:
Hi!

Thanks for replying. You make a good point: I suppose that at interview stage they would want everything still in date (and that if successful you can go into a talent pool for however long, because at that stage the ball is in their court). Bit like how you can only go to certain places with >6 months left on your passport...and you need a photo taken <6 months ago to get the passport in the first place.

Update: turns out that I did need to do the SCAAT after all. Talking of passports, I think it'd be fun if the OPC issued one for assessments. That or a bingo card, except I doubt that any game of bingo anywhere ever went on as long as this!

05/05/26

Thank you for your application for the role of Conductor, reference 029127 with Great Western Railway. We really appreciate the time you have taken and commitment to completing our online application process.

Unfortunately on this occasion you haven't been successful. That doesn't mean you can't apply for another role within Great Western Railway although you'll need to wait six months before applying for the same role again.

Although we can't provide specific feedback at this stage, we do wish you well in the future.

Kind regards,

GWR Recruitment Team
A freeze on hiring external candidates would explain this, I guess.

I’m sitting my MMI 1 & 2 for the Swansea depot in June, how did you find your MMI with GWR? So many different experiences on this forum, some say it was relaxed etc and others feel it was like interrogation lol. Would be lovely if you could elaborate on your experience both with the MMI and the DMI? Thanks

Just had mine and yes, sat all the tests and then the MMI at the end of it. A lot of GWR employees had told me it was separate, and I know a handful of people who have separate MMIs to tests too. Caught me off, but I think it went well anyway

Had mine today! Anything specific you want to know? I'll be honest, I don't remember the questions specifically but can say they are very much 'describe a time you did XYZ'

You get 30 minutes to prep answers. Then an hour long interview to discuss them and expand on them, and get little curveballs thrown at you as well in the middle of it all - as well as hypothetical questions and scenarios.

Could you elaborate a little more? How many interviewed you? Did it feel intense or relaxed? Thanks

Thank you for the reply. It seems the reputation of the MMI varies greatly but the fact it caught you off guard but you feel you will did well makes me hopeful that with some prep and steeling my nerves it can be overcome.

My brain will basically be coming out of my ears when this is all done though I suspect.

Just the one guy who interviewed me - nice guy, relaxing environment. Probed a lot on questions but I think that's to make sure you're on the ball and also able to justify things etc. It didn't feel super intense at all if I am honest, and that goes for the whole day. The group I was in was good too, we all rooted for each other which helped take some of the nerves away.

I told you where to get the 6 questions. And you're still asking for it.
If you search through these threads there are different versions, so, since he’s most recently done them I was hoping to get the most up to date versions. Apologies if this upsets you! I’m simply trying to be as prepared as possible, I’m sure you can appreciate that. Thanks

I'm sorry if I came across that way. I understand that there are different variations of the questions. The one I directed you to are the 6 questions that they have been using for the past 13 years or so. Word for word. And I do appreciate you're trying to be as prepared as best as possible. They were the same questions I got in my mmi. I'll send them to you. Bare in mind, question 5, it should be persevere and not preserve. Wish you all the best for your mmi. And again, I apologise if I sounded annoyed.

No worries at all. I was there as well. I didn't even sleep the night before and the interviewer asked if I wanted to reschedule but I said no. Happy I didn't reschedule. Try and prepare 2 answers for each questions. They will probe from time to time. Answer honestly, to prevent tripping up at any stage. Use the STAR method to structure your answers. You will be fine. And it's ok. You're welcome.
