GWR timetable cut back

well done GWR, even with the new mainly hourly service on the Cornish mainline they are STILL cancelling trains...

You’re always overly sympathetic/supportive to the railway companies, in pretty much any topic, and while I appreciate for those in the industry there might be pressure to keep up an element of support to rail execs viewing the forum, I do think you need to be more realistic - and also aware of how it comes across to those who are continually suffering due to the railway’s failures.

This is rubbish for customers. And saying GWR are doing all they can, will not make it any less rubbish for customers. Sometimes people who are on the receiving end of this just want to have their inconvenience validated.

I think all these views can be true at the same time, cant they? Of course, removing trains from a timetable is rubbish for customers. Of course giving customers clarity on which services won't run is better than cancelling trains all over the place and, what else is GWR supposed to do - given they find themselves in this position - to help customers apart from get their heads down and get on with it!?

I'm a bit of a lurker on here normally but for me these forums are more about helping people understand the challenges, solid debate about the best solutions and finding ways to make improvement. Understanding the challenge is ot the same as dismissing the impact on customers. Even GWR have said as much

Today they're showing on Journeycheck as cancelled.

Still nothing on the GWR website about the trains being "removed from the timetable" from next week. I guess GWR want to hide the bad news and pretend the affected services never existed in the first place - seems to be how it works with the railways these days.

They did have a bloke interviewed on ITV and BBC last week, and I've seen posters on route listing the changes, so they're doing a pretty crap job of hiding it if that's the aim

Offer passengers maybe not free but discounted travel on the routes affected would be a start. See the GOBLIN when the 710s arrived late.

Wouldn’t that accentuate overcrowding on an already reduced timetable.

And even with the ‘reduced’ timetable, there were plenty of cancellations around Plymouth this morning…..
Most of which should be Class 150’s.

Sorry, flippant of course. But it should be remembered - and I realise this has been mentioned frequently throughout the thread - that the DfT make these rolling stock decisions, the TOCs just have to go along with it and then manage the inevitable PR fallout without blaming anyone else. Not a situation that any organisation would choose to be in, really.
