I recently had an interview with GWR for a SDA role (Service Delivery Assistant) and have heard back today stating my interview was good but they don’t have the capacity to take enough SDAs this time round so they’ve kept my records in the Talent Pool for the next SDA vacancy.

What id like to know is does this mean I was unsuccessful, how long is a talent pool usually for or when there another vacancy pops up what would be the process? Any pointers would be highly appreciated

You wasn't unsuccessful but you wasn't the first choice. Talent pools last a variety of times
They may know they have positions coming up they want you to take

If they were to arise would I be hired straightaway

Really impossible to say. Depends how many are in the talent pool. I know it may be frustrating but take the positives they haven't turned you away.

What station did you apply for?

Reasonably high recruitment rate at Paddington, so you might well be alright
Hopefully so. The fact there’s a talent might be an indication they’ll be more positions soon
