Hi all,

When offered a position with GWR, how many references and what type of references are required?

Many thanks,

Pete

I'm sure that's something they'll tell you at the application stage or point where an offer could be made. I'd say your most recent employer is a cert and possibly a character reference.

That’s what I was thinking - but I’ve also heard something about one of them having to be from the last 3 years. Potentially a character reference from someone who’s known you professionally in that period?

And I’m currently in a talent pool so haven’t had the info as yet!

Hi I have just done mine, one has to be current employer within the last 3 years, and the 2nd has to be someone someone who you know in a professional role, eg solicitor or your accountant if self employed. For mine I used my 2 mangers

Thanks mate.

So, I’ve had 2 employers in the last 3 years. Will they want both to cover the 3 years.. or just the most recent one providing it’s in the last 3 years?

Just the current or most recent employer, plus a character reference or professional reference.

In the starter pack I received yesterday it asked to cover the last 3 years with a gap up to 28 days between employment

Cheers guys.

Do they accept company email and a mobile number?

Problem being the postal address for one of them is South Africa!

They only expect company email, nothing like Gmail or yahoo, you can use company phone/ fax number but there is a line for mobile as well

Perfect. Cheers buddy.

And good luck with whatever role you’re about to start!
