Had a lovely lunch on the 13.04 from Paddington the other day. After overhearing the crew telling someone else they almost never turn anyone away have just been told the restaurant on the 14.16 from Exeter is full. So sad! :(

The London crew on the 13.04 down seem to do well accommodating extra passengers in the adjacent coach. The Plymouth crew tend to more just after for the half coach with the kitchen.

Yes, I had two crew opposite in me in standard who were clearly taking it easy and only working the return leg. The conductor was surprised that they hadn't used the other 1/2 coach of First available and they said they were only doing that on the way back. Of course it may also be that only enough food for 17 was loaded!

Pleased you finally got to do the trip this week, though a shame you weren't able to do the up journey today. Encouraging that it is regularly full though! As others have said, it generally depends on the crew, Paddington based crews do tend to set up in the next coach should anyone want to eat; not sure how many other crews do though.

Swansea crews will set up in the next coach if it's a nine car set but unfortunately the booked sets are 2x5 car so it's not normally possible.
