GWR PAYG

Thanks for pointing out that second deadline, it didn't appear in the e-mail with the other instructions.

I also had the two cards thing: one with a 2035 expiry year and one with 2099, and my friend who also has a PAYG card said he saw three cards on his dashboard. All very fiddly.
So that makes five PAYG users. Anyway, glad my comment was useful. As it happens I went PAYG to Weston on Monday, so will probably not find out what the second deadline meant, as I have now tapped in.

The system charged correctly & picked up an outstanding 70p, although it happened after two days, no by 0400 on the following morning.

I tapped in on Friday and the terminal said it was "Updating Card", and I had to hold it in place for several seconds before it began the journey. So I think Benjwri is correct, a new PAYG ticket has been programmed into it.

All worked fine though, including inspections and tapping out at the Plymouth barrier gates. The phantom card (exp 2099) is also gone from my dashboard. The only difference now is that I didn't get an e-mail saying they successfully charged my bank card.

Minor gripe about the changeover. I apparently missed any original comms on this, but today I got an email telling me that I had requested the closure of my PAYG account. Obviously I hadn't. I assume it was triggered because I hadn't yet changed over to this new system, but the email doesn't mention any of that at all.

Although they admit that the NR app can be used to load the card, the re-registration form didn't seem to offer it as an option when it insists on making you type in a station. As I'm nowhere near the GWR area at present I just used the app anyway. That seemed to work fine, and the "GWR ABT" ticket has moved to expired/cancelled.

Interesting, my tap in in the Bristol PAYG area went entirely as normal, including email confirming charging.

Finally got around to using GWR PAYG in Cornwall since the changeover.

I thought I had loaded the new ticket through my phone (I could see that the old one had been moved to expired), but like the poster above I also saw that the tap reader took a few seconds to "update" the card before getting the green tick. The NR smartcard app now shows a new GWR ABT ticket.

I note that my GWR account shows that the first outbound tap must not have been recorded since it was autocorrected. Odd - I got the green tick and the beep and I also got the "journey ended" message at the destination station. The guard also did not suggest there was a problem, though I don't know what their handheld device can see. Does it provide more info than I can get myself?

I do not think I have ever experienced a failure to write to the card, without the failure being obvious at the time, for example failed gate at Weston. The auto fills and penalties appear to come from the tap becoming lost in the system.
As far as I can tell the journey info on the card is just one or two station names. One being authority to travel, two being a completed journey, which is replaced by the next start point if you tap in again.

Interesting question, if you decide to take a scenic tour, for example the Sea Mills-Kemble circuit, without leaving the railway, what would the examiner think of travelling south from Gloucester with tap-in at Sea Mills. You do not appear to have broken the rules, yet when you tap out at SML you will be listed for a penalty fare

I think their website is broken. I've been trying to replace my D&C railcard associated with the Cornwall PAYG account, as I have recently renewed it and the old one expires this month. It just spits out a "we have been unable to validate" error.

I looked at the request in the web console, and behind the scenes it's saying
Code:
errorType: "BAD_REQUEST"
errorCode: "EBR0018"
errorMessage: "Railcard request is not valid. InvalidRailcardType: <IWR>"

Apparently IWR is the code for an Island Resident Card(?). I definitely entered it as a D&C railcard on the website. I modified the request's code to be DCR as it should be, but no luck. I had to phone them up, and a case has been raised to add it manually apparently.

What a pain.

Probably something to do with their WebTIS migration, when you rang them did you ask them to log it for it to be passed to the right team?

The call operator did say it had been logged somewhere, but didn't say who reads those logs or if it was a particular team.

I found the list of railcard codes on a post on this forum, here.
